Master’s in Islamic Studies – California University of Science and Technology

 

This program is designed to deepen specialized knowledge in Islamic sciences, and to develop students’ research and analytical skills in the fields of Fiqh, Tafsir, Hadith, Aqeedah, and contemporary Islamic thought.

It offers an academically rigorous yet flexible structure aligned with the American education system and blends classical Islamic scholarship with critical engagement with modern issues.

 

Program Objectives:

Provide an in-depth understanding of Sharia sciences from a methodological and contemporary perspective.

Strengthen students’ abilities in academic research across Fiqh, Quranic sciences, Hadith, and Creed.

Prepare graduates for roles in Islamic education, scholarly research, and religious guidance.

Enable students to critically address intellectual and social challenges from an Islamic framework.

 

Curriculum (By Semester):

Note: Each course equals 3 credit hours based on the American credit system.

Semester 1:

Advanced Usul al-Fiqh (Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence)

Advanced Studies in Islamic Creed

Research Methodologies in Islamic Studies

Semester 2:

Fiqh of Contemporary Issues

Quranic Interpretation Methods & Sciences

Hadith Methodologies and Sciences

Semester 3:

Contemporary Islamic Thought

Fiqh of Da’wah and Interfaith Dialogue

Review of Literature & Textual Analysis in Islamic Sources

Semester 4:

Master’s Thesis (Supervised Academic Research Project)

 

Duration of Study:

Two academic years (4 semesters), totaling 30 to 36 credit hours.

Bachelor's degree in Sharia, Islamic Studies, or a related field
