The Search for a Revolution
The book is a dialogue between a young man and an old man. The author discusses the military rule that became widespread in Egypt since the July Revolution, and talks about America, Israel, the Iraq War, and Egypt's economy. Ihsan Abdel Quddous's revolution! In 1986, Ihsan Abdel Quddous published a book entitled "The Search for a Revolution." This book was not destined to achieve the fame of Mr. Ihsan's other books, although, in my opinion, it is one of the most important things its author wrote, and perhaps the most important, given its subject, its idea, and also its purpose. At that time, 34 years had passed since the July 1952 Revolution, and we were still, relatively, in the early days of the rule of former President Hosni Mubarak, who had assumed power in 1981. There was widespread debate about the July Revolution, which the former president was, in the eyes of many, an extension of. There were also many who considered Mubarak's rule to be the last link in the chain of that revolution, and that after it, we would have to seek for the next ruler after Hosni Mubarak a different legitimacy, other than the legitimacy of the July Revolution, by which Gamal Abdel Nasser, Sadat, and then Mubarak ruled. It is most likely that Ihsan Abdel Quddous published his book inspired by the debate and discussion taking place at the time. When I say "most likely," I say it as a guess and an expectation, for no reason other than that the author did not mention in his book a single sentence explaining, by way of introduction, the reasons that led him to write a book with this name and this content! The book, as is clear from its title, searches for a revolution, and the revolution its author searches for is the July Revolution. Furthermore, he carries out the search process, throughout the pages of the book, through an extended dialogue between himself, as an old man at that time possessing experience, experimentation, and knowledge, and a young man who wants to understand his past history, hoping to comprehend his present, and then after his present...
