Journalism as a Craft and a Mission
Journalism is a profession based on gathering and analyzing news, verifying its credibility, and presenting it to the public, whether this news is related to political, economic, cultural, sporting, social, or other events. This is done with the aim of forming public opinion aware of the surrounding reality, and establishing a state of transparency that ensures effective public oversight of authoritarian and administrative performance. Journalism in the aforementioned sense is a craft that strives for neutrality, but at the same time remains biased, because the matter is not limited to merely presenting information but extends to the exchange of opinions regarding it in the form of articles, columns, investigations, and news analyses. Bias here is not in the negative sense that involves obscuring, excluding, and falsifying facts, but in the positive sense that carries combative connotations, without which no nation or homeland can advance. Journalism has an enlightening mission it must fulfill, to uplift society and bear its causes and concerns. It is the tongue of its society, the representative of its conscience, and the mirror of its community, just like art.
